EPR is coming

As European countries promote the implementation of EPR (extended producer responsibility), EPR has become one of the hot spots of cross-border e-commerce. Recently, major e-commerce platforms have successively sent email notifications to sellers and collected their EPR registration numbers, requiring all sellers selling specific categories of goods to Germany and France to provide the platform with corresponding EPR registration numbers.

According to the relevant regulations of Germany and France, when merchants sell goods of specific categories to these two countries (other European countries and commodity categories may be added in the future), they need to register EPR numbers and declare regularly. The platform is also responsible for ensuring the compliance of platform merchants. In case of violation of the regulations, depending on the specific circumstances, the French regulator may impose a penalty of up to 30000 euros per transaction on the merchants, and the German regulator will impose a fine of up to 200000 euros on the merchants who violate the regulations.

The specific effective time is as follows:

● France: Effective on January 1, 2022, merchants will declare payment to environmental protection organizations in 2023, but the orders will be traced back to January 1, 2022

● Germany: effective July 1, 2022; The electrical and electronic equipment will be strictly controlled from 2023.
